AJ Nadel is a quintessential New Yorker. Using photographic images from slides and copied photographic prints, he creates a variety of figurative images. Projected onto paper, canvas or panel, these images are converted by paint, collage, pencil, charcoal and powder into works which confront the viewer with a distinct psychological edge and intensity. Recently, he has used Polaroid emulsion transfers (20”x24”) intact or in pieces to fashion different personas and moods from the photographs of himself and of models.
